Amberley, Burpham and the South Downs.

An excellent walk on many levels both literally and metaphorically
A happy band of LWG members met on a bright summers day at the sation, failed to be daunted by a large group of DofE candidates and set off at a lick up the downs. Stopped breifly to laugh at a group od belted galloways lurking in a very small thicket escaping the heat only to realise 200yds later that the had a point- it was quite hot and we had a steep path to climb. A slightly slower ascent evolved but we cheerfully waved on a mountain biker. From here the walk proceeded well with oppurtunity to admire the poppeis and other fauna and flora. A descent took us through an idyllic churchyard which was a hive of activity preparing for an imminent wedding and we had a ring side view of the arrival of the bride, bridesmaids guests a swe ate lunch in a charming pub
After lunch we were able to look down our noses at the Kingston ramblers who passed us going the other way. Not sure why we looked down our noses but we were walking on a high and it seemed appropriate. A happy walk along the side of the river Arun, where some people managed to resist the urge to join the swans and the paddle-boarders for a cooling swim, brought us to tea and then the only downside of the day and long wait at the sation as the train was cancelled
Still a good game of bridge on the train back restored spiirts
