Buxton advisory update
Dear Buxton Walkers,
LWG Advisory 1
With the advent of Summer Time and Judy Parsley’s agreement I am writing with
an update on progress with the plans for Buxton. I also need some information to
help with that planning! We have been waiting for the better weather to undertake
the reccies for the walks but much of the other preliminary work has been done. It is
all looking good!
The terrain will be more varied than we are often used to - with some steepish
climbs! Guidance will be given on what to expect each day with options for brisker
and slower walkers so everyone can choose the walk, and/or distance, that will suit
them best. However, that is all for later!
What will be now be helpfulare your answers to these two questions;
1. On the Friday morning,15 th May, we are planning some guided walking tours
of the historic centre of Buxton. These will last about an hour and a half, in
groups of about 10 people, starting from 10.30 a.m. The cost of joining a tour
will be £15 per person. Can you let me know whether you would wish to join
such a tour? The tours are planned to be suitable for both walkers and non-
walkers alike. They will precede the usual introductory walk which will take
place on the Friday afternoon starting, at 2.30 p.m. from The Old Hall Hotel.
This will last about 3 hours and take us, on a circular route with a bit of a
climb, out of the Town.
2. On that same Friday evening we will have an informal supper at 'The Old Club
House.’ This is in fact a Pub, in the centre of Buxton and close by The Opera
House. We have a private room reserved on the first floor. The pub,
concerned about preparing and serving some 40 separate meals at one time,
have suggested the majority might join in a Curry Buffet. This will include a
beef, a chicken and a vegetarian curry, served with rice, dhal, naan bread and
yoghurt; all for a cost of just under £14. However, if Curry is not your thing,
maybe you have dietary issues or you would simply rather order your own
meal from the menu, then that option remains possible. You can study the pub
menu by going to their website :
https://www.greeneking.co.uk/pubs/derbyshire/old-club-house . Click on Menu
and make your choice. Let me know what you choose as I shall place all the
pre-orders. Any puddings, however, can be ordered from the menu on the
night.
This circulation is marked as Advisory 1 to distinguish it from later circulations, which
will be necessary. Please cross your fingers for some nice weather in May!
Yours,
Follett Balch
