Chorleywood and Heronsgate.

Many thanks for Bill and Vivien for a very well planned walk in the finer parts of Metroland yesterday. We learned some interesting history, had an excellent lunch and walked through some delightful woods with early bluebells. Most enjoyable for all.

By car: exit junction 18 on M25 signposted Amersham and Chorleywood. Head for Chorleywood. Drive past church/ village green/ cricket pavilion (on the left) and then turn immediately left at traffic lights on to Common Road, following signs to the railway station. Follow road to station with Common on left hand side. Go down dip in road and bear left, then bear right crossing over a narrow railway bridge and following road around to the car park. The car park is accessed by a driveway and is not immediately visible. Pay and Display. £6 for the day. Pay by phone or at pay station on departure.

By rail: London Marylebone 9.27 Chorleywood 9.54. Chorleywood is also on the Metropolitan Underground line.

Route: 

A Spring walk that leads through lovely Chiltern beechwoods, commons and horse paddocks looping back to Heronsgate by way of mossy Phillipshill Wood. Steepish incline out of Chorleywood and two more inclines through separate beechwoods. Most of the walk will take place before lunch, but if anyone wants to prolong the afternoon walk we finish up on Chorleywood Common which has plenty of scope for further walking.
