Hogsmill
Can't offer photos of our Hogsmill Walk but please take my word for it that Jane and Richard, Joy , Norma , and I had a jolly time in sparkling spring weather along stretches of some of the clearest chalk stream water you could imagine. To start a fair bit of up-market suburbia ( Banstead/Cheam/Ewell -where I grew up and have been escaping eve since) and a pity that round Tolworth we were sent away from the river bank but lots of birds to see and a surprisingly filling and economical lunch at the Toby Carvery .Hogsmill really quite respectable modest little river with some intersting links - gunpowder mills, Pre-Raphaelites painting outdoors etc.
Train Victoria 9.31 (or Clapham Junction, 9.30 for direct train) arrives Banstead 10.14
Return from Kingston station
Banstead Downs, Nonsuch Palace, then more or less follows Hogsmill river to the Thames at Kingston.
If all else fails there is a pub, Toby Carvery, Hogsmill, marked on the map between Tolworth Court Bridge and Malden Manor Station. ()
As I will not be able to be with you I am recycling a LOOP walk - which mainly follows the Hogsmill river, so continues our tributaries of the Thames theme. The walk is detailed in the Recreational Path Guide to the London LOOP, I have a copy, please contact me if you would like to borrow it.
