Kensal Green cemetery visit

Many thanks to Ed for arranging and leading such a lovely walk A goodly number of members met on a rather dull Tuesday afternoon, umbrellas at the ready, and very much enjoyed an eclectic wander around this amazing large space in North London. If you like cemeteries this is definitely one for you Every style of tomb, memorial and memento imaginable A very poignant small teddy on the grave of Winston Churchill's infant daughter who died of meningitis aged 2 Some one still cares. So many people behind Victorian edifices eminent in their time but long forgotten now We all remembered the authors and the musicians but others with less alacrity Perhaps the Arts are the key to everlasting life

Notes:

Ed Smith proposed this visit he says

“Huge ( and usually unseen) collection of some extraordinary monuments, mausolea (plural please!). In my opinion much more interesting than Highgate. Wide range of architectural styles and periods. Interesting foliage too, though perhaps not that much visible in November. Included in the “tour” many novelists, architects, musicians, politicians too many to list…..”

It seems easier to go direct and not to try and organise a walk or lunch venue. However if anyone would like to propose a lunch meeting let me know the time and place! Margaret M
