Chilterns Walk

It all worked well, the warm and showery weather was comfortable for walking, the recent rain delayed the harvest and that made for marvellous views. We kept to the valleys as far as possible and that gave us a different perspective on a familiar area. And the service at The Greyhound was first-class.

Travel by car: M25 to junction A41 south of Kings Langleyto Tring exit. Look for signs

to Tring station which is about one mile away.

Travel by train: 9:25am London Euston to Tring arriving 10:02am.

Return trains at 15 minutes to the hour, 15 minutes past.

Marina, up the hill past Norcott Hall once owned by Eva “Evita” Peron (Nobody

wrote a song entitled “Don’t Cry for me, Berkhamsted”), Northchurch Common

to Tom’s Hill and Aldbury for lunch.

Afternoon takes us via the least punishing gradient, through magnificent

Meadows overflown by red kites to Dunstable Downs. Within sight of Ivinghoe

Beacon a sharp left on to the Ridgeway passing by the impressive

transformation of the Pitstone cement quarry into a nature reserve. From The

Ridgeway a right turn for the mile long walk back to Tring Station.
