Milford to Godalming

12 valiant walkers met at the start of the walk with full wet weather gear at the ready having been forecast copious rain But as we left the station the sun came out and remained with us all day to allow a wonderful early autumn walk through leafy Surrey The leaves were just beginning to turn, our path was scattered with sweet chestnuts and our biggest worry was stopping to take off the various layers

Out: Waterloo 9 am; Clapham Jn, 9.09 am; Milford 10 am. Return: Godalming (on same line), 56 mins past each hour. Advise getting day return to Milford. Free parking.

Route: 

a.m. Enton Mill, Hambledon, The Hurtwood, Greensand Way to Hascombe, St Peter’s Church. p.m. Around Winkworth Arboretum, along River Wey and Godalming Navigation Path.

Lunch: 

White Horse, Hascombe. Sunday roasts, starters, fish and chips, burgers, salads, desserts. (No soups, sandwiches or jacket potatoes.) No muddy boots. Dogs welcome.

Notes: 

a.m. 2.5 hours, p.m. 2.75 hours. A particularly woody walk. Three stiles. Very muddy in places. Two stunning views a.m. Shortly after lunch one short, steep climb, otherwise no serious uphill. One or two steep downhills. Walking poles recommended
