Surrey Hills; Rodborough, Milford, Thursley and Witley Commons, Surrey

A very happy group of 19 met in lovely sunshine and enjoyed a good walk which was just as described 'on the tin' A perfect walk for winter, but with birds singing and some leaf bud, lambs tails and snowdrops it was early spring. The pub was excellent and unphased by more clients than expeceted and sprits remained high throuhgout
Photo shows Martin prospecting for his new house. Bit too far from west London but otherwise okay

Route:

We start on Milford Common which is mainly woody to reach the heathland and pinewood of Rodborough Common. On reaching Thursley Common we follow the tranquil banks of the Forked Pond and then ascend on the sandy path over open grassy silver birch heath to Thursley for lunch.

After lunch it’s back over to Witley Common via Cosford Mill and circuiting Witley Park to return to the car park.

This is a perfect winter walk taking us through the heath, birch, pine and gorse of four commons. The walk being mainly on heath and in woods, should be ideal underfoot for February although we will encounter one path with some standing water.

Lunch:

Lunch at Three Horseshoes http://threehorseshoesthursley.com

Menu attached. Hopefully everything will be available. No need to pre order, pay for food and drinks individually as we go.
